Digital twin for efficient, safe, and circular industrial water management in the steel industry
AEI-010500-2025-132
BLUESTEEL is a collaborative innovation project aimed at developing a digital twin of the industrial water system applied to a steel plant belonging to the CELSA group. The project responds to the challenges of sustainability, water use efficiency, and digitization that directly affect industrial competitiveness. The solution takes the form of a comprehensive digital platform capable of integrating historical and real-time data from SCADA systems, IoT sensors, biosensors, and industrial automation systems. The digital twin will enable the monitoring, analysis, and optimization of water use in the plant's various circuits, improving water efficiency and operational decision-making. One of the distinguishing features of the project is the adoption of Unified Namespace (UNS) architecture, which facilitates interoperability between OT and IT systems, breaks down information silos, and enables structured and contextualized data management. In addition, BLUESTEEL incorporates an industrial cybersecurity approach into its design, ensuring data integrity, confidentiality, and availability, as well as the resilience of the digital system.
