Barcelona, 27 June 2025.
CELSA Group, a leading company in the production of low-emission circular steel, is reinforcing the future of MRT’s fencing plants in Cerdanyola (Barcelona) and Gijón (Asturias), as part of its industrial plan. This commitment involves expanding the range of products and implementing technical and operational improvements in both plants, with the aim of increasing the internationalisation and added value of their products, particularly metal enclosures and galvanised wire for perimeter solutions.
MRT is the leading manufacturer of fencing systems in Spain and one of the sector’s leaders in in Europe. In the case of the MRT Gijón plant, Celsa is strengthening its strategic alliance with the current minority shareholder Picot, a European leader in advanced high-end perimeter protection systems, by increasing its stake to 44.46%. This agreement will be subject to ratification by the General Shareholders’ Meeting. Through this alliance, Celsa plans to increase production by an additional 8,000 tonnes per year of high value-added products, representing a 15% increase in output, and to boost international expansion.
CELSA Group will remain the majority and controlling shareholder of MRT Gijón, so the company will continue to be fully integrated into the group’s management structure.
As for MRT Cerdanyola, Celsa Group will carry out investments to launch a second Green Galvanized line. This commitment will allow an additional 12,000 tons of annual production, representing a 28% increase in output, and will transform the facility into the best integrated plant in Southern Europe for the production of low-emission galvanized low-carbon wire.
This roadmap reaffirms the Celsa Group’s commitment to increasing competitiveness and industrial solvency, driving MRT’s distinctive model, which is entirely circular and sustainable within the steel sector.
